Continuous Professional Development
  • The Council shall establish, accredit and approve programmes for Continuing Professional Development.
  • The objectives of Continuous Professional Development shall include:
    1. Improve professional competence of physiotherapists
    2. Keep abreast of changing procedures and standards.
    3. Understand and apply advances in technology.
    4. Better serve the physiotherapy profession, health sector, community and the environment.
    5. Assist practicing physiotherapists to increase capacity for learning so as to be more capable, confident and adaptable when faced with change.
    6. Broaden understanding to roles of other professional in the health and other relevant field in order to improve work performance and enhance career prospects.
    7. Maintain, improve or expand technical skills and knowledge
  • The Council shall assign a unit or units of continuing professional development for the measurement and award of credits to persons registered under the Act.
  • The Council shall undertake training needs assessment, develop and update a curriculum for Continuing Professional development setting out the courses and areas of priority.
  • Any course or professional training programme that is not accredited by the Council shall not be eligible for the purposes of determining the unit points earned
  • The Council shall, in consultation with other relevant authorities, determine other courses applicable to the continuing professional development of physiotherapists.
  • The Council may approve an institution, body or organization, to be referred to as an accredited agency, to provide continuing professional development programmes to persons registered under the Act.
  • Any application for accreditation to provide continuing professional development programmes shall be made to the Council in the prescribed form
  • An application for accreditation shall be accompanied by:
    1. The name, address and particulars of the institution, body or organisation that intends to provide continuing professional development.
    2. A copy of the curriculum and course content.
    3. An institutional profile including the facilities, facilitators of the trainings, previous similar activities if any, and any other factors relevant to the institutional profile.
    4. A statement explaining any variation from the approved curriculum, wherever a variation occurs, and the justification thereof.
    5. A proposed calendar of continuing professional development courses.
    6. The fees payable by participants and particulars thereof.
    7. The prescribed fees
    8. The professional qualifications, registration status and areas of specialization of the providers of continuing professional development
  • The Council shall consider and determine an application under this rule within three months of receiving the application.
  • The Council may, before determining an application under this rule, require further information from the applicant and may visit the premises where the applicant intends to offer continuing professional development training.
  • The Council may reject, approve, or approve with conditions, any application to offer continuing professional development programmes.
  • The council shall monitor and evaluate approved CPD providers and programs periodically to ensure standards are maintained and continuosly improved.
